what is ☆???
not just a brand. but a movement
☆ is a rebellion against fast fashion
we create to disrupt
and to explore new ways of reducing waste and making sustainably
we make fashion that doesn’t f☆ck the planet
bold pieces: bags + accessories (but never only those)
from waste: old clothes + fabric scraps + deadstock
born from our passion for fashion
and our disgust with how wasteful, polluting, and exploitative the industry is.
we believe fashion should feel good, look good, and do
good
we’re inventing a new language for fashion. one that speaks of care and repair. one that names the damage. and imagines something better
we don’t know everything. we don’t have all the answers.
but we’re here to learn and search, and share what we find
our story
☆ (alt.9734) started as a creative project between two unemployed flatmates with no money and too many ideas
angel was taking sewing lessons. monika had an eye for design and was teaching herself to sew too. we were broke, restless, and pissed off at how much trash the fashion industry creates
so we started making something of our own
our first bags came from what we collected from family and friends – old jeans and unwanted gowns from angel’s mom’s closed-down dress rental “Star of the Night” (Vakaro Žvaigždė). renting out gowns became way less popular in the fast fashion era, and these glamorous out of fashion dresses were just sitting there. they’d danced many nights – and landfills were definitely not fit for their rest
so we cut them up, played around, and gave them new shape and new purpose
our living room became our production studio, and our whole apartment quickly turned into a hoarder’s dream as people kept giving us their old clothes. closets overflowed. Even the balcony became a storage unit
challenging fast fashion isn’t easy. our first attempt to sell the bags totally flopped. But even then, we knew that this is something worth building
eventually, we outgrew the apartment and rented a studio. that gave us space to keep creating (and hoarding scraps), but also to invite others in. We started running workshops and sharing what we’d learned
we exist to reduce waste, challenge fast fashion, create with care and curiosity – and keep learning and sharing the knowledge
reimagine. recreate
